The unwrapping
Your first photo is already there when they open it.
E-paper holds a picture with no power at all. So set it up at your place, send a photo of the grandkids, the dog or the two of you, and wrap it. When the paper comes off, the picture is already on the frame, and every photo you send after that arrives by itself.
How giving works
The setting up is yours. All they do is choose their Wi-Fi.
About ten minutes with your phone. It joins your group, so anything you send reaches it, wherever it ends up hanging.
The picture stays on the frame in the box. No battery drain, no screen to switch on.
That's everything they'll ever need to do. Or hang it for them next time you visit, and they won't even do that.

Yes, and you should. Set it up on your Wi-Fi, in your group, send a first photo, then wrap it. They only choose their own Wi-Fi when they open it.
No account, ever. A phone is needed only for the one-time Wi-Fi step, and you can do that for them.
Yes. Anyone with a frame in the group can send a photo from a phone on their own Wi-Fi, and it appears on every frame, including yours.
